![]() | So you feel entitled to a sense of control And make decisions that you think are your own You are a stranger here, why have you come? Why have you come, lift me higher, let me look at the sun Look at the sun and once I hear them clearly, say Who, who are you really? And where, where are you going? I've got nothing left to prove Cause I've got nothing left to lose See me bare my teeth for you Who, who are you? Now you're moving on and you say you're alone Suspicious that this string is moving your bones We are the fire, we see how they run See how they run, lift me higher, let me look at the sun Look at the sun and once I hear them clearly, say Who, who are you really? And where, where are you going? I've got nothing left to prove Cause I've got nothing left to lose See me bare my teeth for you See me bare my teeth |
| ϵ AGENT WASHINGTON ϵ |
| My asymmetrical and non-linear understanding (misunderstanding of) the past few years are only like a dog who bites someones hand. It's reflex; by the time the newspaper is swatted at it, it's too late. The dog has forgotten everything but shame and self defeat - but not the why. |
| Militant, direct, and justice-oriented, Agent Washington is the product of far too many variables tunneling in on him at once. He has assumed role after role as it was required of him over time - soldier, military operative, recovery agent, prisoner, antagonist, and finally, leader and friend. After the events on Chorus, the cocktail of relief, concern, and grief of that war's conclusion had left him all but drained, and more than ready for a moment of respite. With the Reds and Blues, Washington felt closer to the man called "David" than he had in years, even if he was still achingly far from the mark. It was easy for him to fall into step, upon his arrival; easy for him to become the bastion of solidity and leadership that kept him together back on Chorus. The landscape and circumstances around him are always changing, but Washington is nothing if not adaptable. He considers that one of his few assets, and it's certainly had its use here. |

Let go of everything you have inside
Let it show, you no longer have to hide
It's almost dead silence when the lights go out
I like to make believe that I have the show shut down
'Cause then I feel relieved when the bass slowly sounds
A crystal light shines and echoes through the crowd
The people erupt and I become a part of the
Machine that moves directly to the beat and I
Am one with you and everyone who's heart is here
Let yourself go, this is the only time to feel alive
This brings me out to you and I'll say
I'll scream it 'til my heart comes out of my chest
And leave it to the music to transcend the rest
This life is just a perfect fit for a mess like me
So many reasons to live; I need to let them show
I've made the hardest mistakes; I need to let them go
I feel the tempo rise. My eyes open wide
I feel the well that is my heart overflow, and now I'm losing control
These flashing lights got me lifted off the ground
What could go wrong? What could go wrong
When all of us are together?
Never thought it would come down to this
For the first time in my mind, everything's coming to life
I'll paint a picture in my head, for the best
I'll be the person to let us all see everything hard to define
He'd never want to admit to being relieved that she's now on these islands along with him. But he trusts her leadership and capacity to keep a cool head far more than he trusts himself. She's an anchor, a reminder, an edifice, and some part of the instinct he acquired in Freelancer must have remained - the one that says he can hold out until Carolina comes through, because when Carolina comes through, that's when the fight's been won.

Got woken in the night
By a mystic, golden light
My head soaked in river water
I had been dressed in a coat of armor
They called a horse out of the woodland
"Take her there, through the desert shores"
They sang to me, "This is yours to wear"
"You're the chosen one, there's no turning back now"
The smell of redwood giants
A banquet for the shadows
Horse and I
We're dancers in the dark
Came upon a headdress
It was gilded, dark and golden
The children sang
I was so afraid
I took it to my head and prayed
There is no turning back
There is no turn
There is no turning back
There is no turn
There is no turning back
There is no turn
If no one else is going to look out for her, Wash is bent on ensuring she doesn't end up dead because of it. It's the very least he can do.

We float before the sea at dusk
In heavy mist, in glitter dust
I smile before I want to
I smile because you want to
Down by the shore, a funny foal
Who bit my wings and ate them whole
You left before I come to
You left before I come to
We took to hills into the trees
I hit my head and bit the leaves
You left before I come to
You left before I...
Shanks of slate fall to the beach
Wrapped in life in ultra greens
Pools teem with tiny feet
And whorls of tired anemones
You left before I got to
You left before I got to
Shake my little soul for you now, toy
And I settle up into a world of noise
I'm a man of many tricks and tools and joy
With a battery of guilt on which to poise
I smile because I want to
I smile because I want to
I smile because I want to
I smile because I want to
I smile because I want to
I smile because I want to
I smile because I want to
I smile because I want to
He's probably terrified of Wash, and for a decent enough reason. At the moment, Wash isn't particularly in the mood to sway him from that instinct. For now, he's content to call out Lucas's shit when he sees it. That seems to be enough.

Life's just a pay stub on death
Only less diligent
And when the two collide
It's no coincidence
The lights are on and everybody's home
The only thing suicidal here is the door
We had a good run
Even I have to admit
Life's just a pay stub on death
Only less diligent
Hell or Glory
I don't want anything in between
Then came a baby boy with long eyelashes
Daddy said, "you gotta show the world the thunder!"
We didn't come to compete
This is a demonstration
Even the young ones become irrelevant
They always bring up how you changed
Never the same person when I go to sleep
As when I wake up, as when I wake up
Hell or Glory
I don't want anything in between
Then came a baby boy with long eyelashes
Daddy said, "you gotta show the world the thunder!"
He said "Bring the thunder!"
And then one day, C.T. isn't dead anymore. She's alive and engaged and has an entire story of a world Washington has never imagined, has done things he can't even fathom, and has lived an entire life separate from him. And now she's here, aching with loss and longing for people Washington has never met.
But she's his best friend.
He missed her. And, incredibly, she missed him too. The most they can do is be there for each other, and do their best with that. Hold out hope that, someday, that might lead them to some sort of peace.
